Definition: Propoxyphene is a narcotic analgesic drug that is structurally similar to methadone, but milder additive effects than methadone. It is administered in the form of hydrochloride. It is also called as dextropropoxyphene and often combined with acetaminophen. It is also used as an antitussive medication. As an analgesic, it alters the way the human brain responds to pain without any anesthetic effects.

Long-term usage effects of the drug are liver problems, constipation resulting to colon rupture, stomach cramps, and nausea.
