Opium is the drug extracted from poppy plant and the crude form of opium is opiates. Opium is extracted as milky latex from immature poppy seed. Upon exposure of fluid in air it turns solid and black in color. Opium is the highly addictive drug and is marketed in streets in the form of dark brown powder. This drug can be smoked, ingested and injected.

Misuse of opium drug has started when the user feels change in the nervous system during the medical use of the drug. Opium is prescribed to treat pains. The pain killer has benefited people in overcoming the pain and depression. Upon use of opium user could feel changes in the behavior, mood and state of consciousness. Misuse of drug is stated that a person take drug to change the mood and emotion. Opium has high potential for misuse.

Drug Test For Heroin Can Be Done As An On-Site Drug Screening

Heroine produces morphine type of dependence where there is overpowering desire or need to continue taking the drug and to obtain it by means and by a tendency to increase the dose due to the development of tolerance. There are 3 types of heroin namely the white, brown and black tar. Street heroin is also known as smack, junk or dope and it is diluted with quinine, lactose and mannitol. A combination of heroin and cocaine is known as speedball which is very dangerous.

It is metabolized to monoacetylmorphine or acetyl morphine. Monoacetylmorphine is then hydrolyzed to morphine that has a half life of 38 minutes. As such chemical analysis can detect morphine but not heroin. After injection, morphine and monoacetylmorphine are found in urine almost immediately. The drug testing can be done from now in urine using drug panel tests.

Abusive And Medical Properties Of Opiate – Opiate Testing

Opiate: An opiate is a narcotic that is derived from the opium poppy flower. It contains opium. This is a psychoactive drug that gives a sedative effect, causes anorexia, and suppresses sexual desire. It is highly addictive in nature and the withdrawal symptoms include hallucinations, vomiting, etc.

Abusive properties of Opiate:

The effect of the opiate depends much on the kind and the quantity of the dosage used. The main psychological effect of opiate is that it stimulates the central nervous system and creates euphoric feeling. Opiate when used along with cocaine will prevent a person from falling asleep.

The effect of opiates is decreased heart rate, slow breathing, constipation etc. It decreases the hunger and thirst and also increases the pain tolerating capability of an individual. The use of opiates along with alcohol, antihistamines, and barbiturates increases the risk for respiratory depression. Opiates are mainly used as an analgesic. It is also used to suppress cough and in some gastrointestinal disorders, like diarrhea due to cholera. The last but not least use of opiate is to relieve labored or difficult breathing. Scientists are still researching on the medical properties of Opiates. A recent research on an animal model has showed that the exogenous opioid has proven to reduce the size of the infarct area and the death of cell post myocardial infarction apart from being an excellent analgesic.
