Cannabis or marijuana is a plant whose cultivation is restricted by law. The female plant is taller and has more darker and luxuriant foliage than the male. The active principles are contained in resin that houses cannabinol as the main constituent. Cannabinol is inert but when it is exposed to heat, it is converted to more potent deliriant agent called tetrahydrocannabinols (THC). All parts of the plant, male and female, contain the active material, except stem, root and seeds. It is mainly a CNS stimulant.

Benzodiazepines are antipsychotic agents which therapeutically modify the behavior of an individual. It has a broader spectrum of action and of course has lower abuse liability and lower toxicity than other antipsychotics. The absence of alteration of sleep architecture has led to the ousting of barbiturates from the treatment regimen for insomnia.
They are effectively used as muscle relaxants and for alleviating anxiety. The drug taken in the body is metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine which may continue for many days. The best method to detect benzodiazepines in urine is to perform a rapid dip stick assay in this detection period.

Barbiturate belongs to a class of depressants that are highly sedative and hypnotic in nature. The drug depresses the brain and nerve impulses (CNS) which causes muscle relaxation and is used as an anti-anxiety medicine. They are also used as an anti-convulsive medication and as an anesthetic. The street names of barbiturate are downers, blue heavens, goof balls, etc. Barbiturate testing is used to exclusively identify barbiturate abuse.
Abusive properties of barbiturate:
The barbiturate can be taken orally as a pill and also injected when it is dissolved in water. The effects of barbiturates are similar to that of alcohol. These are called as “brain relaxers” and create psychological dependence. The drug if used for more than a month has the potential to get one addicted to it. This drug is also used to counteract the effects of the stimulants like cocaine.
A little dose of barbiturate can cause drowsiness and intoxicated. A moderate amount of it causes slurred speed, staggered walking, confusion, thinking impairment, etc. A higher dose of barbiturate can lead to coma and respiratory distress, and even death. Barbiturates have been used many a time to make suicide attempts.
Barbiturate detection can be done as barbiturate urine screen or it can also be tested for from swab drug testing; however, a specimen validity test is important for all drugs.
Effects of barbiturates on pregnant women are more severe and it causes the new born to get addicted to it and is bound to have withdrawal symptoms. Some of the withdrawal symptoms of barbiturate are hallucinations, insomnia, vomiting, perspirations, tremors, fatigue, seizures, and light and noise sensitivity.
The use of barbiturates also results in certain diseases like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, nystagmus, acute confusional stage, rhabdomyolysis, etc.
Medical properties of barbiturate:
The main use of barbiturate is to treat seizure disorders like status epilepticus, tonic-clonic seizure, eclampsia, etc. It is also a very good anti-anxiety medication. It is used in catatonic, negativistic, or manic reactions. It’s use as a preoperative sedation is immense. Increased intracranial pressures are also controlled using this.

Drug oral swab test is by far becoming the very common method of drug test adopted by many businesses. The drug oral test is better for most of the pre-employment drug testing needs. This is a preferable method because the sample adulteration is going to be difficult in cases of saliva where attempts to replace the sample with substitution of sample adulteration materials will be difficult. There can be no possible chances for the donor complaining of shy bladder or that he is not able to piss for the sample because saliva will be available anytime and there is not going to be any stress in giving a sample of saliva. It will be there round the clock.

The drug info saliva test usually detects drug levels over the immediate past. Drug oral screening can be one of the integral parts of rapid drug tests because the sample collection procedure can be done on-site under close supervision when compared to urine tests, where the donor will have to go to a hidden place to produce the sample. In cases of urine sample collection the few minutes are sufficient for someone to dilute the sample.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requires testing under very careful standards. Guidelines for DOT drug testing are very clear and requirements and procedures must be followed closely.
Collection of samples is carefully monitored. Supervisors of individual employees as well as employees themselves are not allowed to act as sample collectors. A supervisor may only act as monitor when there is no other alternative on site. Also, employees who are subject to DOT testing rules who are in jobs that require extra caution due to safety should not be used as collectors or observers because there is a risk of problems due to the fact that they work with the same people on a regular basis. It is important that conflict of interest is avoided, so anyone working together regularly or in any way related in our out of the workplace should not act as collector or observer. This rule is in place to attempt to preclude any tampering of samples. That is also the reason the collector must supply proper identification and certification regarding their training as a collector.
There are also rules regarding the collection site. There should be private facilities provided for the employees. Water for hand washing must be provided and it is preferable that it is located outside of the toilet area in order to prevent people from diluting their urine sample with water. If there is no other way, the collector must find a way to ensure that the sample has not been tampered with. If there is no water available, the collector must provide a way for the person to wash their hands in some way. If the bathroom contains soap dispensers, waste containers, or any other container that can be used to stash water or adulteration agents; they must be carefully monitored to ensure that they are not misused.
Drug tests used for DOT drug and alcohol testing must be approved for use. A DOT drug screen must be done with tests that can be conveniently used in a DOT collection facility. If the collection site for urine tests is difficult to monitor and properly maintain, other tests can be considered. One of the easiest and least invasive methods of testing is Alco screen Saliva Tests. These tests detect the level of alcohol in human saliva. The results are very close to blood levels of alcohol. For only $2.75, you can use a D.O.T. approved saliva alcohol test that is easy to use. The reactive pad is placed in the mouth and touched with saliva. The results can be read in four minutes. It is difficult to aim for a DOT drug pass test with a saliva screen that is used randomly because it readily detects recent drug use. A saliva test also eliminates the trouble involved with providing proper facilities and adulteration protection that is necessary when using a urine test.
DOT drug testing is not simple. There are many guidelines and rules regarding the tests themselves, collection procedures, collection personnel, collection sites, and many other details.

The alcalert breathalyzer is available for the low price of $79.95 and is an affordable way to test for drugs on the spot. There is no need to be in a laboratory setting or even near a private bathroom in order to take the test immediately. The Alco-Scan breathalyzers have been approved by D.O.T. and NHTSA. The legal limit for blood alcohol is 0.08% for driving and this unit detects between 0.0% and 0.40% blood alcohol content.
Another breathalyzer that does not require wait times but can be used conveniently any time and any place is the AlcoMate Prestige (AL6000). This breathalyzer tests for alcohol very accurately. It has convenient features and contains the latest detection technology. It costs a little more at approximately $120.00. An individual blows into the unit through a mouthpiece for four seconds. The unit analyzes the breath sample in six seconds. A cumulative test counter and notification messages make this unit very easy to operate.
Alco screen Saliva Tests may be used to get results quickly. These tests detect the level of alcohol in human saliva and tend to do a better job detecting recent use. The results are very close to blood levels of alcohol. For only $2.75, you can use a D.O.T. approved saliva alcohol test that is easy to use. Put the reactive pad in the mouth and touch it with saliva. The results are available in four minutes.
Detection drug times are not set in stone. The times can vary greatly based on drug testing techniques, the body chemistry of individuals, the strength of drugs used, and the duration of drug use. People should never depend on reported drug detection times to try to pass drug tests.

Detection period of drug in system is becoming an important key that helps someone in passing a drug test. Drug detection tests can sometimes fail to identify metabolites if the time when the sample was collected was much before or after the detection period of the drug. This concept is used by many abusers to pass pre-determined drug tests. The abstinence of using the drugs prior to testing helps one to adjust with being away from providing the sample out of the detection period. It is for this reason that most of the drug detection tests are required to be done in random. (more…)

New hires of any corporate organization are often kept in a period of probation. During the temporary evaluation period employers might prefer to reevaluate if they have made a correct decision in relation to the recruitment. Apart from job related qualification and performance the employer might prefer to have drug testing on the employee to confirm drug behavior odds if any.
Cotton drug swab test is one of the simplest of drug tests that might be performed in an employee in probation. Swab drug test identifies barbiturates, opiates, Cannabinoid, amphetamines, and cocaine. The principle behind swab drug testing lays in that the concentration of the drugs in saliva under certain conditions is in most cases the equivalent to the drug concentration in the blood that is not bound to any protein in the serum. And, therefore the concentration of the drug levels of the saliva is interdependent on the serum level of that compound. Due to this interdependence of the level of the drug in the blood against saliva has caused drug fact saliva test to be an effective tool in the epidemiologic research which deals with identifying addiction and consumption of psycho-addictive substances like alcohol, prescription drugs, and illicit drugs.

The employers might prefer to check their employees for a set of abusive drugs, which can be anything ranging from a basic alcohol testing with breathalyzers through complicating hair testing methods. The complexity of the drug testing and the method of drug testing that should be employed in a work place drug testing depend upon the kind of abusive behavior the nonproductive employees are suspected for.
Apart from at workplace drug testing there might arise moments where a particular sample would require an in depth quantitative analysis due to some positive strip results. During such times, a urine sample for which the temperature must be controlled might be a real need.
