Barbiturate belongs to a class of depressants that are highly sedative and hypnotic in nature. The drug depresses the brain and nerve impulses (CNS) which causes muscle relaxation and is used as an anti-anxiety medicine. They are also used as an anti-convulsive medication and as an anesthetic.
