This increase is generally referred to as the ‘LH surge’. It generally occurs in the middle of a menstrual cycle. Because of the individuality of each woman’s cycle, it is sometimes difficult to determine the peak times for fertilization. Because the release of LH triggers the release of an egg, it is a great way to pin point the time of peak fertility. Although an LH surge may not occur in all female cycles, it is generally a good method of determining when an egg will be released.
