Sweat drug testing is an effective alternative for drug testing especially when urine drug testing is not possible. Sweat constitutes one of the important excretory pathways in the body. The orally administered drugs get metabolized in the body and are excreted in urine as well as sweat. This is the principle behind the testing of sweat for the excretion of drug and its metabolites.

The sweat drug testing is essentially a patch that is attached to the skin for a fortnight. The patch absorbs the sweat and keeps the constituents concentrated as the water portion of sweat evaporates. This patch is then removed and sent to the laboratory for testing. The patch would show positive reaction for drug only if any drug of abuse has been consumed with the patch in place.

This is especially useful in places where urine testing is not comfortable to perform like government institutions, child protective agencies, parole department, etc. Once the patch is applied, it is left in place for the desired period of 2 weeks and the patch is then removed and collected by a social activist or an officer and sent to the lab in the given packets as per the instructions.

Sweat drug testing is a very simple procedure to perform and does not require a rest room. This test is not useful in people who have disorders of sweating or in real meaning; the amount of sweat varies from person to person depending on their environmental conditions, biological and personal factors.

However, the common mode of drug testing is 5 panel urine drug test kit, ten panel drug screen, oratect oral fluid screen, spit drug testand so on. Very few companies resort to sweat drug testing; however, the other forms of testing like the urine drug testing and saliva drug testing are commonly used.
